Scott Yu

Scott Yu is an award-winning industrial designer known worldwide for innovative lighting, transportation, and consumer electronics designs. As co-founder and the Chief Creative Officer of Vode Lighting LLC, Scott has brought his passion for design and sustainability from design to manufacturing.  Launched in August 2006, Vode has enjoyed tremendous recognition; projects include the California Academy of Science, San Francisco International Airport, Tech sector headquarters, San Francisco Bay Area, Harley Davidson Museum, Milwaukee, Library of Congress, White House Visitor Center, Washington, KAUST in Saudi Arabia, and many international projects.

As co-founder and president of Gingko Design Inc., Scott brought over twenty-two years of experience to product solutions. He strove to achieve design excellence by turning marketing, engineering, and manufacturing inputs into exciting product solutions. Under his leadership, Gingko Design was honored with multiple awards: IDEA, CES, iF, Good Design, ID Magazine, and the Singapore Design Award.

Before founding Gingko Design, Scott held design positions at Ford Motor Company, Peugeot SA, and Volvo A.B. Beginning with initial design proposals for both interior and exterior designs, Scott served as lead designer for Citroen's ECO 2000, a culmination of a three-year government-sponsored test vehicle, achieving 90 mpg fuel economy in 1983.  Continuing as the youngest manager at Ford Motor Company, he headed the small car studio responsible for the design and development in the 1980s, he moved to Studio 2000X, where he spearheaded the integration of computer technology into the design process. During his ten years in the auto industry, Scott collaborated on specifications for software programs to meet the needs of product designers.

Scott is passionate about objects in motion. He regularly bikes long distances on weekends and paraglides over the Pacific Coast. He also donated his time to the US Olympic bobsled design.

Scott received his Bachelor of Science degree from Art Center College of Design in 1981 and currently serves on the boards of IES SF and ArtCenter FullCircle, driving impactful change across industries.
